What is ASB?

anti social_drinkingASB is any activity by someone living near you which causes you a genuine nuisance or problem. This can be an everyday activity, such as a rubbish filled garden, or a more serious problem, such as drug dealing, abuse, harassment (including racial harassment), threats or assault.

We believe that everyone has the right to get on with their lives without being troubled by other people’s behaviour. We take problems of anti-social behaviour very seriously and we are determined to do everything we can to stop it.

Many problems can be resolved by neighbours talking to each other. Your neighbour may not be aware that they are causing a problem.

Some of the most commonly recognised types of anti-social behaviour are:

  • Verbal abuse
  • Violence or threats of violence
  • Hate crime
  • Noise nuisance e.g. loud music
  • Fly-tipping
  • Vandalism and grafitti
  • Harassment
  • Domestic Violence
  • Pet nuisance such as dogs barking, dog fouling

We work in partnership with Gloucestershire Police, Cheltenham Borough Council and other relevant agencies across the borough. We are authorised to share relevant information with these agencies under the Crime & Disorder Act 1998. We will adhere to the provisions of Data Protection Act and the Human Rights Act.

ASB often involves criminal behaviour. All criminal behaviour should be reported to the Police. In cases of emergency ring 999, otherwise ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
