Hobart House residents celebrate new garden

CBH Pictures 043Residents of Hobart House are looking forward to making the most of the summer sun in their new communal garden thanks to the work we have carried out to transform their communal space.

The work to improve the communal area at Hobart House was designed with input from local residents and includes:

  • A new community garden including clothes lines, seating areas, allotment areas and planting beds
  • The installation of new children’s play equipment
  • The planting of new trees
  • Improvements to the perimeter security
  • New bin stores
  • Improved  parking area

To celebrate the completion of the works we held a special summer party and BBQ in the communal garden on Wednesday 23 July with over 60 people attending including residents, CBH board members, local councillors and Cheltenham’s Mayor, Wendy Flynn.

There was plenty on offer to keep everyone entertained including; a special planting event, a fun dog show, art and crafts activities and a bouncy castle.

Our Housing and Communities Director, Kathie Pearce, said, “It’s great to see so many people here today to celebrate this lovely new outdoor space. Residents were heavily involved with the plans and I think the final results are testament to their valuable input and ideas. I am delighted to see the dramatic impact this regeneration has had for the area by creating a wonderful communal garden, improving security for residents, and making their community a more pleasant place to live now and in the future.”

Notes for editors

 Cheltenham Borough Homes:

  • CBH is one of the top rated ALMOs (Arms Length Management Organisations) in the country. ALMOs are not for profit companies that run social housing services for their local council
  • Currently CBH manage and maintain around 5,000 tenant and leasehold properties with high satisfaction and performance levels, when compared nationally with other housing providers
  • CBH put their customers at the heart of what they do; working with them to shape services and ensure the company focuses on local need
  • CBH deliver more than high quality core landlord services: they have an ongoing programme building new homes and regenerating communities; they support people to find work and employment; work to improve financial inclusion and develop stock to make it more energy efficient
