Bigger and better! Housing advice service joins CBH

017On 1 December 2013 we were delighted to welcome the Housing Options Team following Cheltenham Borough Council’s decision in June 2013 to transfer the service.

The team works to prevent homelessness and provides information on the types of housing available in Cheltenham, including social housing, private rental, low cost ownership, supported and sheltered housing.

Our Chief Executive, Paul Stephenson, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the Housing Options Team to CBH. The decision to transfer the service represents a good solution for people in housing need in Cheltenham and will enable us to work more effectively with the Council in helping them achieve local aims.

“We’re looking forward to working with them to continue delivering and developing a service that meets the needs of the local community.”

The decision to transfer the services follows a review which took into account the welfare reform changes the Government is currently implementing.

Councillor Peter Jefferies, Cabinet Member for Housing and Safety at Cheltenham Borough Council, said: “Cheltenham Borough Homes is our nationally recognised three-star arms-length management organisation and their own high standards are envied amongst their peers while valued by their tenants. They are our housing providers of choice.”

He added: “As an organisation, Cheltenham Borough Council is shrinking so it seems entirely sensible that we commission our housing experts to manage the Housing Options Function on our behalf.”

Our Housing Options Team is based at Cheltenham First Stop, 301-305 Cheltenham High Street, GL50 3HW. You can visit in person or contact them on 01242 775168 or HousingRegister@cheltenham.gov.uk

Notes for editors

Cheltenham Borough Homes:

  • CBH is one of the top rated ALMOs (Arms Length Management Organisations) in the country. ALMOs are not for profit companies that run social housing services for their local council
  • Currently CBH manage and maintain around 5,000 tenant and leasehold properties with high satisfaction and performance levels, when compared nationally with other housing providers
  • CBH put their customers at the heart of what they do; working with them to shape services and ensure the company focuses on local need
  • CBH deliver more than high quality core landlord services: they have an ongoing programme building new homes and regenerating communities; they support people to find work and employment; work to improve financial inclusion and develop stock to make it more energy efficient
