Our St Paul’s project scoops further planning award win

St Paul's 3Hot on the heels of its national award win, our St Paul’s regeneration project carried out by Bath-based built environment planning and design practice Nash Partnership has scooped a further award from the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) – this time, from its South West region.

The St Paul’s scheme in Cheltenham has been named the ‘overall winner’ from a total of eight projects submitted for this year’s RTPI South West regional awards. The project involved forming a partnership between Cheltenham Borough Homes, Cheltenham Borough Council, local residents, police, other stakeholders and Nash Partnership to renovate the existing housing stock and provide 48 exemplar new homes and community facilities to regenerate the area.

In June, the RTPI announced St Pauls as the winner in its ‘Exemplary Planning to Deliver Housing’ category at its National Awards for Planning Excellence event in London. Representatives of all the SW entries will travel to Cheltenham on Wednesday 23 July for the regional awards ceremony at the Pittville Pump Rooms.

Nash Partnership’s Urban Design Director Amanda Taylor, who designed the scheme, commented: “We are delighted that the St Pauls project has received this award in recognition of its regional importance. Key to the project’s success was the involvement of the local community, so this regional win is a just reward for everyone who played a part in bringing about the effective regeneration of this area.”

Mike Redman, Director of Environmental and Regulatory Services at Cheltenham Borough Council, commented: “We are obviously delighted to have won yet another award for the St Paul’s regeneration project. The scheme deserves recognition for its ground-breaking achievements and these awards recognise the huge contribution of our planning team, the St Paul’s community and our delivery partners, with Cheltenham Borough Homes and Nash Partnership worthy of special mention, who have all worked so effectively together to deliver this outstanding scheme. The benefits to the St Paul’s community will be felt for generations to come.”

Our Chief Executive, Paul Stephenson, said: “After recently winning the national RTPI Planning Excellence award, to go on to win a regional award and receive recognition that the St Paul’s regeneration is the best in the South West is fantastic news for all those involved who created this successful development.  Many years were spent planning with the local community and partners to create this regeneration which has had a big impact for residents. It was their vital input that shaped the final designs and created a community where people are proud to live in now and in the future.”

The RTPI Awards for Excellence are held annually to highlight exceptional examples of planning and celebrate the contribution that planners and planning make to society, inspiring others to achieve the same high standards. Projects on the shortlist have been recognised for their national contribution to planning and demonstrate how significant schemes can be delivered speedily through the planning and other consents systems.
