Understanding Asbestos…Information Sheet.

Many people have concerns about asbestos as the release of fibres can cause serious damage to your health.

This is why a CBH Asbestos Guide on how to deal with asbestos has been created for your safety.

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that has been used in a range of building materials to make them fire resistant. It has also been used in household products such as:

  • ironing boards
  • fire blankets
  • oven gloves

High concentrations of Asbestos in the atmosphere can be potentially very dangerous if inhaled over a period of time where they can cause serious lung diseases, including cancer. It is important to note that undisturbed asbestos poses no risk to health.

It can be hard to identify Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs), but if you suspect that they are present, it better to treat suspicious materials as asbestos until proven otherwise.

If you are concerned about asbestos:

Telephone – Freephone 08004 080 000 or 01242 775824 Building Surveyor (Legislative Compliance) for any technical enquiry in respect of asbestos.

The Technical Section of CBH Property & Investment Services maintains the Asbestos Register and administers the Asbestos Policy and Procedures relevant to CBC’s housing stock.

Check out our new CBH Asbestos Guide to answer any questions that you may have surrounding asbestos and how to keep your home safe.
