Let’s CONNECT to improve your Mental Wellbeing…

This week we will be supporting Mental Health Week 2015 by posting one of the Five Steps to improving your Mental Wellbeing each day with advice on how to fulfil these positive and life changing steps.

Feeling stressed, depressed or even anxious about your day to day life? Mental wellbeing explains your mental state on a day to day basis and looks at how well you can cope with daily tasks. Our mental wellbeing is everchanging and can vary from day to day, month to month or even year to year.

It is inherent of human nature to have low mental wellbeing, for instance feelings of sadness, stress and difficulties in coping are common factors of everyday life. However there are steps that can be taken to turn around those negative thoughts and help you to lead a positive lifestyle.

The Five Steps to Improving your Mental Wellbeing have been scientifically proven to make people feel happier, more positive and able to get the most from their life.

CONNECT – is our step of the day.

Its main focus is the ability to connect with people around you. Whether it be with family, friends, colleagues and neighbours or even at home, work, school or in your local community, building these connections will support and enrich your daily life.

Why not take the time to listen and understand by reserving judgement and hearing them out. Focus on what is being said and try to understand. Taking time to listen will generate appreciation from others.

Try to trust other people, as having no trust can involve a huge amount of worrying on your part. You can never know whether someone is going to help you or not and in most cases it can be out of your control. So why not enjoy life and take a chance on someone.

Be honest about your needs, share with others your expectations and desires as it can give people a chance to consider your feelings.

Why not give something back to someone by making them feel good and by making time for those who really matter. This can spark new relationships and new connections with people and even improve your overall mental wellbeing.

Let go of the need to be right as you will only push people away. Instead accept people for what they are, right or wrong and they will love you back unconditionally.

Why not celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week by attending the Healthy Lifestyles event due to take place Wednesday 13th May 2015, 5:30pm-7:30pm at Pittville Park, Cheltenham.
