Let’s GIVE to improve your mental wellbeing…

The Five Steps to Improving your Mental Wellbeing have been scientifically proven to make people feel happier, more positive and able to get the most from their life.

Our final step of the week is all about being kind and doing something nice for a friend or a stranger. Studies show that thanking someone, smiling, volunteering and taking the time to get involved in your community can be incredibly rewarding.

Giving will enable you to create new connections with the people around you and in return will give you that priceless sense of purpose, making you feel happier and more satisfied about life.

GIVE – the fifth step is all about giving time to others, not only to enrich their lives but to strengthen our own life so that you are never alone, as you build and create new relationships.

Loneliness can have a devastating effect on peoples’ lives as it is linked to depression, increase in alcohol consumption, smoking and is regarded a massive health risk leading to higher mortality rates.

Friends of the Elderly are trying to change the future of loneliness as there has been a worrying increase in the number of elderly people who feel lonely. They are urging everyone to Be a Friend and connect with older neighbours and members of their community. Being a Friend is easy; it’s simply getting to know the people that live around you and looking out for each ossmgrp7ther where you can.

Small everyday acts can make a huge difference to your wellbeing so why not:

  • Say thank you to someone for something that they have done for you
  • Mentor someone and make a difference to their lives
  • Test your DIY skills or develop your project working skills by helping a colleague
  • Help a stranger who is struggling to carry bags or a push chair etc
  • Volunteer to help your local community
