Last month the Wallace House Craft Club and The Oasis Ability Hub each designed their own Tribal Shield to take part in The Barnwood Trust Black History Month Competition 2017!
The theme for this year’s competition was all about creating an African Shield that represents your community!
We’re delighted to announce that the Wallace House craft Club won on their first ever entry and the Oasis Ability Hub were runner up for the second year running.
We have picture evidence of their symbolic and impressive creations below:
Picture 1:
The creative winners of the Wallace House Craft Club – Pat Thompson, Diane Howett, carol Gatter (Craft Club Teacher) and Stan Howett, celebrate their winning shield! Hundreds of 1 inch felt squares were embroidered to create the mosaic effect of their successful entry.
Picture 2:
The members of the Oasis Ability Hub – Bonnie Toner, Lucy Barnett; Mary Peterson CBH Community Involvement Officer; Alison Cooke; Margo Moss and Tina Cordwell are all smiles as they showcase their splendid runner up entry.
Their shield had Adinkra symbols specially chosen for their meanings and a zebra head, as the Zebra symbolizes freedom, individuality, friendship and unity. Though they are a part of a herd, they each bring something special to the group and seemingly get along with all other animals.
Massive congratulations and a huge well done to everyone who took part in producing these stunning and magnificent shields!
