We celebrate good times with an APP’y brunch!

On Friday 24 November 2017 we celebrated the successful completion of our Alternative Provision Programme (APP).

This special project was set up back in May, to help inspire a group of young people from All Saints Academy to stay in mainstream education.

It’s been an exciting six months as we’ve seen our APP recruits:

  • Team up with St Peter’s and the Moors Big Local to support the regeneration of a community garden space
  • Flex their green fingers to replant the raised beds over at St Paul’s
  • Put their chef hats on to bake an afternoon tea for local residents
  • Discover the cost of living alone and the importance of budgeting
  • Develop their first aid skills
  • Explore the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle
  • Spend a day with Crimestoppers to find out more about the dangers of carrying a knife
  • Attend a session about the importance of staying on the right side of the law and what life is like inside prison

The students also spent some time with our repairs team and contractors to get a flavour of the working world. This was a great opportunity to give them a first-hand taster of the different types of careers that they could pursue in the future.

After learning all the tricks of the trade our APP boys are now ready to go back to school with gusto!

But before we could let them embark on their new journey, we organised a special brunch to celebrate their achievements and to thank our contractors; Travis Perkins, Ian Williams, Liberty Gas and everyone who took part n the APP for their continued support.
