How to end your tenancy

If you wish to end your tenancy please read the below information or print off our Fact Sheet:

Notification
If you want to end your tenancy you must contact us to request a Tenancy Termination Form. This form should be completed, signed and returned to us as a matter of urgency.  See our contact details here

A full 4 week notice period (ending on a Sunday) is required to bring the tenancy to an end. This 4 week notice period can only begin the Monday after we have received the tenancy termination form completed and signed by the tenant.

Our written response
Once the Tenancy Termination Form has been received by our Empty Homes Team we will write to you confirming the expected end date of the tenancy. We will also send you details of the My Move scheme and Bonus scheme.

Clearing the property
You must clear all items from the property, loft and any external stores/sheds. This includes all furniture, floor coverings (excluding vinyl in the bathroom and kitchen), window blinds and curtains, cooker, kitchen white goods, personal items and rubbish.

Failure to return the property in a clean and clear condition will result in you being recharged for the cost of us carrying out the necessary clearance/ cleaning work.

If you have floor coverings which are new and/or you believe to be in excellent condition please contact the Empty Homes Team who will arrange for the Void Property Inspector to visit and make an assessment as to whether they can be left in the property. Please note that leaving floor coverings without gaining formal approval to do so will result in you being recharged for their removal. For more information, please read the Recharge Leaflet.

If you have bulky household items to dispose of Cheltenham Borough Council offer a special collection service for items which do not fit into the wheeled bin at the property or weigh more than 25kg. There is a charge per unit for this service (a unit being equivalent to a three piece suite or a double bed and mattress or a cooker.)
