Sheltered Housing

What is sheltered housing

Sheltered housing properties are designed to promote quality of life and promote good health and wellbeing for older tenants to maintain their independence in a safe and secure environment.

We have nine groups of sheltered housing schemes across Cheltenham, 517 properties in total of secure affordable housing.

There are variations between the sheltered housing schemes, but mostly they provide the following features:

  • Self contained flat, studio or bungalow with its own bathroom and fitted kitchen
  • Communal facilities such as laundry rooms, communal lounge, communal kitchens, communal gardens and guest room
  • Security doors and safety features
  • 24 hour emergency alarm system
  • Social activities

Eligibility for Sheltered Housing:

To be eligible applicants need to be 60 years or over (or 50+ with high support needs).

How to apply for sheltered housing:

Housing Support Team

Our Housing Support Team provides support to enable older people to continue to live independently in their own homes. We aim to improve quality of life and promote good health and wellbeing.

The support offered is tailored to each individual needs which are assessed regularly. We understand that people value their independence and we aim to help them retain this as much as possible.

  • Comprehensive support assessments are conducted regularly by skilled and experienced staff to identify support needs
  • Signpost to relevant agencies to facilitate appropriate support to maintain independence
  • Tailored support to stay connected and active in communities
  • The team are flexible and provide tenants with information and guidance in a format that is best for them
  • Help the community set up groups and activities that benefit the local area
  • Opportunities to participate and learn a new skill
  • Support to aid health and wellbeing
  • Maximise benefit entitlement
  • Help in sourcing transport for getting to appointments
  • Support tenants in getting back on their feet after a life changing event or illness
  • Opportunities to access CBH community hubs
  • Living in CBH sheltered housing scheme tenants will benefit form 24 hour access to emergency help via the call system
  • Living in CBH general needs properties, referrals can be made to the Gloucestershire Council Telecare scheme
  • We will only share tenant’s information if they give us permission to do so
  • Our service is confidential

We will always do our best to provide services that will enable our tenants to remain independent for as long as possible.

There are some things that we can’t do which include:

  • Personal care
  • Lifting and manual handling
  • Administer medication
  • Shopping, cleaning, washing and ironing
  • Handling money and collecting prescriptions

 CBH Community Hubs

Our older peoples Community Hubs offer quality health and wellbeing services social activities, located in the heart of our communities. They provide a focal point and facilities to foster local community activities to bring residents, local business and smaller organisations together to improve quality of life as well as increase sense physical, emotional and mental wellbeing to promote healthy aging.
